A prominent 19th century Victorian building located in the heart of historic downtown Macon, the Armory Building was built in 1884 for Macon's first military unit, the Macon Volunteers.
.
The three (3) story brick building has a corner crenellated turret, arched central doorway of iron, brick, stone, terra cotta and oolitic limestone, and the spandrels have military emblems and likenesses of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson in terra cotta.

The main building cornice is constructed of galvanized iron with a buttressed pediment that includes the year of the original building construction. Retail spaces occupy the ground floor storefronts. A central staircase from the main street-level entrance runs to the second floor, intersecting a central hallway. The second floor houses an Auditorium / Ballroom with stage, balcony, and vaulted ceiling spanned by Howe trusses.

The restoration of the Ballroom involved the addition of a warming kitchen and bar area to accommodate such events as wedding receptions, concerts, seminars / lectures, etc. The various building systems (HVAC, electrical, and plumbing) were all modernized within the fabric of the historic structure. The renovation also included the installation of an elevator to comply with ADA requirements. The second and third floors also include space for professional offices.

The Hogue Harvey Building was originally constructed as a bank in the late 1830’s. It is an important mercantile building not only because of its age, but because it is one of very few early bank buildings that have survived. The building is typical of early nineteenth century bank buildings and the only one in Macon with a Greek revival style stone façade.

The rehabilitation of the building façade involved removing a canopy that was not original to the building, restoring the entrance doors, and tuckpointing / cleaning the existing limestone. The interior of the building required removal of approximately two-thirds of a second floor that had been added, restoring the existing run plaster cornices and architectural detailing of what had once been the 2-story banking lobby. Glass partitions and butt-glazed glass walls were installed across the front of the second floor offices, leaving the original ceilings entirely exposed to view from the lobby. A law firm owns and occupies the building.
