Project Overview
This adaptive reuse project involved and addition to and the complete renovation of the former McKenna National Guard Armory building. The building serves as a multi-use Community Center, housing support services for the neighborhood, including the adjacent public housing. The building has housed agencies including Head Start, Central Georgia Technical College, WIC, Family Care Solutions, and the Boys and Girls Club.
Multi-purpose spaces are provided within the facility to provide supporting agencies with meeting/training space for special programs. These spaces, which include a gymnasium/auditorium, training rooms, and a conference room, may also be used by other community groups. The striking barrel-vaulted roof over the gymnasium/auditorium is enhanced with glass and distinctive blue metal.
