Project Overview
Originally constructed in the 1920s, the original Clisby Elementary School consisted of two classroom levels, with a kitchen and cafeteria on the lower level. The building, located in the Vineville Historic District was slated for demolition to make room for a new facility.
At the urging of neighborhood historic preservation groups, a compromise was reached with the Bibb County Board of Education: the front and side walls of the original façade would be maintained, with a new building located behind the existing façade.
Today, the facility’s street view remains the same as ever – but behind the façade is an entirely-new three-story classroom building. Behind that is a new two-story wing housing the media center, cafeteria, kitchen, and an auditorium.
