Project Overview

Riverside UMC’s Sanctuary was originally built in the 1980s and an Educational Building was added in the years following. The addition, designed by BTBB, provides a connection between these two structures, blending their distinct architectural styles. The project also navigates a unique topographical challenge: the existing buildings are each two-story, but none of the floors align.

The new 16,000 square foot space provides gathering space outside the Sanctuary, Children’s Ministry space, and Administrative offices. An important aspect of the project was creating a spacious covered drive-through for church ministry operations as well as an inclement weather drop-off location. The interior space is defined by well-illuminated corridors created through the use of glass storefront systems.
