Project Overview

The Bibb-County Courthouse has undergone numerous renovations since the current building was constructed in 1924.  BTBB added a fifth floor to the facility, enclosing an area which was once a prison facility. This newly defined space was set up for State Court offices, courtrooms, and a large lobby extending from the floors below.

The most recent renovation is the first since the consolidation of the City of Macon and Bibb County.  Many of the former county administrative offices moved to Government Center, which opened significant space for much-needed expansion of:

  • State Court judges & clerks’ offices and a future courtroom, State Court Solicitor’s Office (Annex & Grand Opera Office Building)
  • Superior Court Jury Assembly
  • Civil / Magistrate Court lobby, offices & courtroom
  • Probate Court offices

Work on this facility is ongoing and a testament that possessing a deep understanding of users’ needs in a facility allows for best design practices in adapting buildings toward their highest and best use.
