Project Overview
Wiggs Hall was constructed ca. 1903 as the first science classroom building on Mercer’s Macon campus. The discovery phase of design uncovered several surprises, including a previous ground floor auditorium which had been lost to time.
The renovations included restoration and modernization of a grand staircase, creation of several technology-outfitted suites, and energy efficiency upgrades through improved building envelope methods and more-efficient HVAC and lighting systems.
A sensitively located and detailed building addition accommodates an accessible entrance with elevator and provides a new life for Mercer’s Office for Career and Professional Development and Office of Global Engagement, as well as the Offices of Fellowships, Scholarships and the Honors program.
